Along with all this trip planning, we have also moved, selling our home of 22 years and downsizing. We moved into in-town rented accommodation in early March specifically so we could live a more walkable lifestyle. Alas, moving did not settle well with my 50+ year old body, and I’ve been battling severe hip pain since early February, which makes walking more than a mile very painful. It’s finally been diagnosed as a bulging disk, and PT is helping. But am I really going to be able to walk 10+ miles a day 2 months from now? Some days that feels quite unlikely!
But, in a spirit of wild optimism, we plough on with trip planning. We now have train booked from London Heathrow to Exeter, and a hotel room (actually, two rooms so jet lag can be less contagious) in Exeter. We don’t yet know how we’ll get from Exeter to Crackington Haven–most likely by taxi.
We haven’t yet booked the train from Plymouth back to London, since we need to coordinate with the Ls on that one. We’ll pick a van up from Heathrow, along with 3 more of our kids who will be flying in that day (hopefully the timing will be impeccable!) and then we’ll drive to Norwich. At the end of the week there, the kids all fly home, and D and I fly to Geneva, then train to Les Houches, the start of the Tour du Mont Blanc. We received all the information from Macs Adventures for our Mont Blanc walk. At the end of the TMB week, we have a TGV train booked to Paris, 3 nights in Paris, then home. Phew!!!
I just need my hip\back to get with the program, fast!
