Expectations
Ah, a rest day at Dale Lodge in Grasmere! Plan to explore the village more fully than we managed last time. And above all else, not climb any hills 🙂
Realities
Best night’s sleep yet! Finally.
Headed down for breakfast only to find it didn’t start till 8:30am (amazingly late for a outdoor activity center!) So relaxed in the lounge and admired the most fun chess set I’ve ever seen.
Finally, breakfast.
Which appeared to cause antlers to grow out of D’s head
D and L went out for a walk around Grasmere while M took the rest day notion more literally.
Yum!
Wordsworth graves…confusing when you’re not sure which Wordsworth is which!
Stopped for coffee at this place. Nice coffee…
But unappetizingly huge cakes. The millionaire’s shortbread was literally 2 inches tall. Hard to get scale, despite my fingernail, but it was probably 8 times bigger than a usual sized piece. Disappointing to see British cafes going American on portion sizes.
Saw this remarkable sign. Amazing…
Upon our return, retrieved our laundry and handed in M and L’s boots to see if they might dry overnight. Had lovely Skype catch up with K in NZ.
Next…off to find Dove Cottage and fly the drone a bit. The ideal field for drone flying wasn’t very welcoming. So we sat just outside it and flew the drone over it 🙂
Drone footage to be added later.
Explored the shops of Grasmere to see if we could buy a camera for M. Answer: No. Through the miracle of the internet, we instead ordered one from Amazon to be delivered to the Ls in Seattle, who we will see in Kirkby Stephen in four days! Meanwhile, we could have easily bought a jigsaw puzzle:
Dinner at Tweedy’s again. I had crispy lamp shoulder, which arrived looking nothing like lamb but was far and away the tastiest thing I’ve eaten here.
One more night sleeping in the tulips then off to Patterdale!

So glad you’ve had a rest day. My legs feel noodly just thinking about yours! Keep up the good work. Surely, there’s sunshine and an easy path in your near future.
