The plan
10.4 miles\635m ascent\average grade 8%\3:45 hours of moderate then strenuous walking to Fernleigh (Cs) and Boak House (Ls) in Coverack
Reality
Continuing our theme of “we don’t need to visit Lizard point” we headed east out of Lizard for Church Cove. This beautiful thatched cottage had a thatch cat on the thatch porch…
Vegetation is now more sub-tropical. I love these huge “pokers” flowering along the path. Not sure what they are.
One of many fence-crossing styles:
A natural cliff bridge. I think this might be the Devil’s Frying Pan?
We stopped at the cove at Cadgwith for a snack and drink, but we arrived a little before opening time. Gave us a chance to watch the working harbor in action…
Two of the three Ls hiked up the street to catch a bus onward from Ruan Minor. The rest of us continued on, after a quick look back at the cove…
Certainly not the most challenging ascent, but even so, this is a steep climb out. Just below the horizon and a little left of center you can see a little white blob–that’s a person way above us.
Looking back to some of what we’ve walked. Marazion is a whole headland back from the left hand side of the photo–so much progress we can’t fit it in one photo.
Stopped for a drone flight to determine if a dark object in the water was a rock or a seal. Answer: rock. About 10 minutes of walking further on, we saw two seals!
Then into Porthleven.
And our lodgings…
That evening we “watched” some of the England vs Croatia semifinal world cup football game, but from a table where we could see the screen. So we had to guess from reactions. We left the pub at halftime when England was leading, and watched the second half –when they lost–in our room.
