The plan
Now a merry band of 6, we head east again, 10.3 miles\653m ascent\average grade 7%\3:40 hours of moderate then strenuous walking to Wellmore End Cottage (Cs) and Harbour Inn (Ls) in Porthleven.
The reality
10.49 miles, with a high of 78, made bearable where the wind was moderate, but very hard in sheltered uphill portions. Too late in the evening to add more words than that!
Need to look up what this odd contraption is (or was): a wooden post with gear tracks on one side and various slots and holes through it. Possibly used to have a wheel horizontally on top? A slot through the top that lined up with the huge chain in the ground. For winding boats in? Cargo up? This was in the smuggling part of the coast.
Lunch at Praa Sands (pronounced “Pray”)
Copper mines…
Heading, with relief, into Porthleven…
Dinner at the L’s accommodation, the Harbour Inn.
Then back to Wellmore End Cottage. Lovely host here–I think the nicest so far.
