The plan
10.85 miles\747m ascent\average grade 9%\4:02 hours. I couldn’t quite figure out from the description how tough the walking is, but the stats suggest moderate-strenuous? Will report back! Staying at a golf course for a change.
Reality
Will need to update in Porthcurno. Internet speed here in Cape Cornwall is OK for download but awful for upload.
Not the best internet here in Porthcurno, but world’s better than at Cape Cornwall. Now I just need to remember what happened yesterday.
I for sure remember it was wet! Our first truly wet day.
So full gear…rain hat, pack cover, rain jacket, rain pants.
And pretty waterfalls.
The wild (?) ponies didn’t seem to mind.
Clouds make a nice change from clear blue skies.
This would have seemed spectacular if it weren’t for the comparison with beaches under bright blue skies. Amazing that the water was still clear though.
Pendeen Watch.
And then the start of the mines. Fascinating landscape, filled with the ruins of the tin and copper mining industry that dominated the area at one time.
You can see the green copper leaching out of the cliff on the right hand side…
We climbed up to the Geevor Mine, intent on the cafe more than the tour.
Our first cream tea. The scone was a bit gummy–not the best.
Then on through more mine ruins…
By now, it had mostly stopped raining so we could shed some layers. It’s very difficult balancing staying dry from rain vs staying dry from sweating! In this photo of me taking a photo of a gate, I’ve rolled up my rain pants, and my rain jacket is draped over my pack rather than zipped up around me.
Talking of the gate, I was fascinated by this rather crude ribbon embellishment…
Then onward to Cape Cornwall Golf Resort. Lovely place. More about it in tomorrow’s entry…
